Both the Ioniq 5 and Prologue have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Ioniq 5 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Prologue’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Ioniq 5’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Prologue doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Prologue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Prologue is not even a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2025.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Prologue’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Honda covers the Prologue. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Prologue ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Prologue’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Honda pays for maintenance for the Prologue (3/36,000 vs. 1/12000).

The Ioniq 5 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Prologue’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Ioniq 5’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Prologue’s (54% to 46%). This gives the Ioniq 5 more stable handling and braking.

The Ioniq 5 N handles at .96 G’s, while the Prologue Elite pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ioniq 5 N executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3 seconds quicker than the Prologue Elite (24.1 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 27.1 seconds @ .64 average G’s).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 800 pounds less than the Honda Prologue.

The Ioniq 5 is 8.7 inches shorter than the Prologue, making the Ioniq 5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Ioniq 5 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Prologue doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches. The Prologue’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Ioniq 5’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the Prologue’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

When the Ioniq 5 Limited is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Prologue’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Prologue have standard heated front seats. The Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited/XRT also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Prologue.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Prologue doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
