Compare the2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2025 Kia EV6

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Kia EV6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The EV6 doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is safer than the Kia EV6:

The EV6 has not yet been fully evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the EV6’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EV6.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is ranked fourth.

The Ioniq 5 N’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EV6 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Ioniq 5 N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the EV6 (275/35R21 vs. 255/45R20).

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EV6 GT’s 40 series tires.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The EV6 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 5’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the EV6 (118.1 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The Ioniq 5 N handles at .96 G’s, while the EV6 Wind e-AWD pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The EV6 GT-Line/GT’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Ioniq 5 has a standard rear wiper. The EV6 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The EV6 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Insurance will cost less for the Ioniq 5 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Ioniq 5 will cost $755 less than the EV6 over a five-year period.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 4 more times in the last 4 years. The EV6 hasn’t been picked since 2023, and the EV6 has only been chosen once.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 outsold the Kia EV6 by almost two to one during 2024.
